The Egyptians had many names for Mars. They called it Horus of the Horizon, Horus the Red, and Shining Horus. They also called it the Star of the East in Heaven that Runs Its Course Backward. They called Mars a backwards star because, at times, it appears to move backwards in relation to the stars.
